Faculty Advisors

Overview

Advising a fraternity or sorority can be a richly rewarding experience for Georgia Tech staff and faculty. Thank you for your commitment to the Georgia Tech Greek community!

The following guidelines offer suggestions to help insure your successful involvement. Guidelines.

  • Time Commitment: Initiate discussion with chapter officers about how you can best assist the chapter and what your commitment level should be. The minimum commitment suggested is to attend or meet at least once with the chapter executive officers, alumni advisory board and the chapter. If time and schedules permit it would be recommended to attend these once per month.
  • Interest Areas: Scholarship is always a good place to start for a faculty or staff advisor, but communicate with the chapter if you have other skills you would like to offer. Choose projects or activities that can be done in a semester and no longer than a school year.
  • Liability/Insurance: Although the need is very unlikely, you should definitely be included on the general liability policy provided by fraternity or sorority. It is recommend that you contact the headquarters of that organization directly and make those arrangements. Ask the chapter president and advisor for assistance.
  • Support: There are numerous resources available to support fraternities and sororities. Contact the Office of Greek Affairs and the Student Involvement Center for help finding resources. Fraternity and sorority headquarters can also provide a wide range of resources.
